Circuit Layout & Training Drills
These drills should enable the lawn bowler to improve accuracy and consistency; irrespective of the alignment and length; when performing the various bowls shots - whether on the forehand or backhand. As you work through the various circuit layouts, the importance of having effective bowls in the head to alter, improve or protect the tactical disposition should become clear.
Circuits are laid out for shot evaluation, delivery skill evaluation and confidence training drills. They can be used to revise or practice the various shots played in the game of lawn bowls and to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the bowler’s delivery skill, when performing the various shots whether it is to a short, medium or long end.
The layout involves 6 rinks with the position of mats and jack set at short, medium and long ends.
Circuit Layout No 1: the draw shot
Circuit Layout No 2: the draw shot to the ditch
Circuit Layout No 3: movement of the mat and jack
Circuit Layout No 4: draw shot to the boundary
Circuit Layout No 5: the draw shot
Circuit Layout No 6: draw shot to and around the head
Circuit Layout No 7: the 30 centimetres or 1metre on-shots
Circuit Layout No 8: the 2 or 3 metre on-shots
Circuit Layout No 9: the 4 metre on-shot
Circuit Layout No 10: 30 centimetres, 1, 2, 3 & 4 metre on-shots
Circuit Layout No 11: trailing the jack 30 cm, 1, 1.5 & 2 metres
